More than 1,200 Crawford & Company employees helped others around the world during a wide variety of service projects undertaken on October 5, 2013 as part of the Company’s fifth annual Global Day of Service (GDOS).

“Employee support continues to grow for our Global Day of Service, now in its fifth year, and I am proud of our strong tradition of volunteerism, providing service in our communities around the world,” said Crawford President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey T. Bowman.

The 50 projects planned by volunteers in more than 20 countries helped organizations ranging from orphanages and retirement homes to domestic violence shelters, food banks and nature parks. Some of the activities undertaken include the following:

  • In Jacksonville, Florida approximately 45 volunteers helped a community center that serves military veterans. Volunteer services included center cleanup, repairs and painting, and funding a new dishwasher donation and installation.
  • In Canada projects across the country included working with Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army, the Barrie Food Bank, the Laurel Creek Conservation Area, Canadian Blood Services Centres, and the CIBC Run for the Cure race.
  • In Jakarta, Indonesia a team participated in the Jakarta Race 2013 Against Cancer charity run to raise money for the Indonesian Cancer Foundation.
  • In Johannesburg, South Africa projects included sports field maintenance for the Emthonjeni Community Centre.
  • In Brazil volunteers organized playful activities and provided a meal for the children at Lar da Crianca, in addition to donating food, clothing, and toys.
  • In Hong Kong volunteers worked to clean up Silvermine Bay Beach, one of the area’s most popular beaches.
  • In Warsaw, Poland Crawford volunteers redecorated rooms, made repairs, and engaged in planned activities with seniors at an area retirement home.

Company employees also served their communities individually if they were not able to join a group project.

In Crawford’s headquarters city of Atlanta, GA more than 250 volunteers touched the lives of others at the Agape Community Center, a nonprofit organization serving a community which includes more than 2,000 school-age children from underserved families.  Crawford volunteers engaged in a variety of projects supporting the Agape neighborhood children, families, and seniors.  Volunteers distributed more than 2,000 books to school age children; 115 children enjoyed stories, lunch, tennis and basketball drills, face painting and gift bags; 63 families received donated fresh produce; four mobile homes were painted and repaired; four community closets were redesigned; three community rooms, a kitchen and bathrooms were scrubbed; mural painting artistry was enhanced in the community center; two senior citizen homes and yards received deep loving care; and one new community soccer field was built – all in one morning!  Atlanta employees also donated funds, school supplies and cleaning provisions for the Atlanta Mission’s Day Shelter for Women & Children.
